Our Story

FruitShare was founded in 2025 by Rohan Roy-Chowdhury, a student at Junípero Serra High School in San Mateo, California. The idea came from noticing two problems in the community: homeowners had more backyard fruit than they could use, while other people faced food insecurity.

To connect the two, Rohan began reaching out to homeowners, harvesting their excess fruit, and delivering it to local organizations. Since then, FruitShare has donated over 300 pounds of fruit from more than six households to two recipient organizations.

As FruitShare grows, the next step is building a volunteer-led system that can operate beyond one person coordinating every harvest. By developing experienced volunteers into Pickup Leaders, FruitShare aims to make fruit harvesting and donation more consistent, sustainable, and easier to expand.
