About FruitShare

Our Story

FruitShare began in 2025 as a student project at Junipero Serra High School, founded by Rohan Roy-Chowdhury with a simple idea: backyard fruit that would otherwise go unused could instead help people in the community.

What started with reaching out to local homeowners and personally harvesting and delivering their excess fruit grew into partnerships with local organizations serving people facing food insecurity. Along the way, FruitShare has also revealed a bigger challenge: creating a system that can grow beyond one person coordinating every pickup.

Today, FruitShare is working toward that next stage by bringing together homeowners, volunteers, and recipient organizations to make rescuing backyard fruit more sustainable and easier to expand.
